Still interested? Here is the link: https://skillswimming.com/members-subscribe/ Thank you! Possibly the most important thing to learn in swimming is the butterfly kick. I say this for three reasons: 1- You could legally do butterfly kick for 15 meter every lap during freestyle, backstroke and butterfly races. 2- It strengthens your core and therefore improves your stabilization when swimming any swimming stroke. 3- Butterfly kick is used in all four swimming strokes after the turns (even during the breaststroke pull out). The most important thing is to practice every time you get a chance. Usually coaches let you choose what kick to do during a kick set. So whenever you have the chance, force yourself to do more butterfly kick. It is going to be harder than the other kicks, especially at the beginning but I promise it gets a lot easier and it is worth it. During butterfly, the most common technique is to do two kicks for every stroke cycle. For some beginners this could be a challenge. To do this you need to kick fast, so practice kicking at a fast pace with a kickboard, simulating the actual butterfly kick. Try doing one strong kick and one smaller quicker kick. This will create muscle memory and will help you swim a better butterfly. In the water there is a little bit of gravity pulling you down all the time, this can offset the balance of your kick. The beauty of butterfly kick is that the more balanced it is the more efficient. This is how kicking on your back, on your side and on your stomach can improve your kick. You will develop a more balanced efficient kick. Remember to make a strong effort when you go downwards and when you go upwards. Just like we said in the freestyle drills video, actually seeing your kick can help you improve it. For this drill it is better to have fins to get high on the water and see the kick better. I will do a video explaining the butterfly timing so make sure to subscribe by clicking the circle or the subscribe button bellow the video! Don’t forget to leave us a comment!
