I live and New Jersey and with all these drones flying around, I was inspired to make some dark ambient drone. I tried to capture the eerie feeling of walking around my neighborhood after dark while mysterious aircraft are hovering and collecting overhead. Even as I recorded this video, I began to see them appearing for the evening outside my window as they have every evening for the past week.
This patch uses the Behringer Crave (x2), Behringer Edge, and Behringer Pro-1.
Midi for this is semi-randomly generated using Steppic by Devicemeister. I have one instance of Steppic loaded which is triggering notes on the two Craves and the Pro-1, all with very similar patches. I have split the signal from Steppic to alternate between the three synths using the splitter module in VCV Rack.
The Edge is playing the low drone on C by pushing the sequencer up into audio rate. I also have some very slow modulation of parameters coming from LFO modules in VCV Rack, converted from Midi to CV using the assign outputs of the two Craves.
After completing a pass of the full generative sequence, I did another pass in the middle of the piece to just add a sequence using the Crave's onboard sequencer.
The effects used are Soundtoys Crystallizer fed into Valhalla Supermassive for a big shimmer reverb, H-Delay for the Edge Drone, TAL-Chorus LX on the Edge Drone, and Valhalla Vintage Verb on the Crave sequence.
