For my 50th birthday, I chose to raise funds and take 50 Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) to Ukraine on my motorcycle.
The kits contained vital trauma equipment and were supplied by Gravitas UK based in Hereford. After some fantastic donations and fundraising from friends and colleagues, we had enough to purchase 50 kits and after the challenge of loading all 50 onto my BMW R1200GSA Motorcycle, on Tuesday 22nd August, I left home to take them to Ukraine. On Wednesday the 23rd of August I rode the 1066 miles (so I thought) from Calais to the Poland/Ukraine border with the aim of riding the section in under 24 hours. The plan was to hand over the kits to a member of the Ukrainian Military on the morning of Thursday 24th August, Ukraine Independence Day.
With numerous donations and help, including a set of new Michelin Road 6 tyres courtesy of Michelin UK, a service for the motorcycle courtesy of Vertu BMW Motorrad in Exeter and a very welcome wool seat cover from MotoCoverz Bideford we took on the challenge to deliver YOUR IFAK kits!
Follow the journey from packing the motorcycle at home in Devon, riding to Calais with Actor Ian Kelsey and then getting the kits to the border and into Ukraine.
