Welcome to my "Will it Camp?" series, where I take anything and everything to see how capable it is in a camping scenario!

Today's episode features this 2015 Audi TT from my friend Derick. It didn't take much persuading to convince him to go camping with me but with his sportscar.

I was impressed by the amount of boot space this 2-seater Audi has. After tightly squeezing it all in, we set off on our camping trip. Our first adventure was over the beautiful Bainskloof Pass in Wellington. I wanted us to drive the Slanghoek Road towards Rawsonville, but the low-water bridge was flooded. We did decide to pick the worst weekend for this camping trip as there was lots of bad weather and rain predicted, but the weather has never stopped me!

After a short detour, we reached the first gravel section. After quickly deflating the low-profile tires, we made our way down the short 5km dirt road. This short section of gravel road leads through a pass which looked amazing in this semi-rain/sunshine weather we had. We soon arrived at the reception of the Dwarsberg Trout Hideout. After a warm meal at the Bistro and checking in we made our way down a small farm road until we reached our riverside campsite. These private campsites have their own ablution and absolutely stunning views!

We survived a cold and wet night of camping and were woken by snowy white mountain peaks right around us. Every mountain peak received a good amount of snow overnight and it was such a special sight to wake up to. Right there and then we decided to pack our camp and head to Ceres in search of more snow. There was lots of snow on the mountains, but nothing ground level. All in all, it was a good camping experience with the Audi TT!

Now, how practical is the Audi TT in a camping situation? Unfortunately not practical enough. Yes, we did successfully camp, however, if there was any bigger wash-out or rock in our way and our camping trip would have been unsuccessful. Yes, the Audi has lots of packing space with a Qautro drive-train, however, it is simply too low and the tire profile too little. The risk of getting stuck or damaging the vehicle is simply too high. It will get you in the outdoors to experience nature, but not practical enough for camping.

Let me know if you agree or disagree and let me know what other vehicles you would like to see me take camping!
