Om Swami says that in our Sanatan dharma one worships many gods, similarly, a person can have any number of gurus. He says, no relationship should be built on obligation and especially not something as sacred as a guru-disciple relationship. He says that when he initiates someone, he firstly connects them to his lineage and when he takes on a disciple he takes on their spiritual and karmic responsibility too. If the disciple wishes, he then guides them on the path of sadhana. He takes them through all the seven steps, without letting go of them midway if they have followed all his instructions diligently. He says people should think clearly before asking for initiation as sometimes with time people’s views can change and they may want something different.
