Can I stop on a yellow line? Can I park on a yellow line? The question seems simple but in fact, is so complicated that councils throughout the country make huge amounts of money because of its confusion. The answer is Yes and no. Yes, you can park on certain days but you can't park on other days. In this video, I'm going to explain the rules in simple terms. In the UK we have single and double yellow lines. Single yellow lines mean no parking on the times at the times stated on the plate. This could be anything between 7am and 7pm. An example of this would be something like 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday but always check the sign as they may differ. You may have to walk up to 50 meters to find one of these time plates. A double yellow line is the same as a single yellow line but with extended hours. So if they wanted no parking up to 8pm, the council would have to paint a double yellow line as single is only valid up to 7pm. Most double yellow lines are 24/7 However, you can stop on signal or double yellow lines to pick up and drop off passengers or for loading and unloading. T this is where many people get their parking tickets. They say they went only for 2 minutes to load or unload something. But they fail to notice the dashed line or lines on the curb. A single dashed line indicated no loading or unload between certain times. Eg. In this example, there is no parking from 8am to 6.60pm. Before 11am you can stop to load and unload. You can also stop to load and unload after 3pm. The traffic warden will usually allow you 10 minutes before issuing a ticket. However, between the hours of 11am and 3pm, even if you stop for a minute and pop into the local shop, you can get a ticket. The traffic warden may not allow you any time and issue a ticket within seconds. A double dash would mean no loading at any time. Well, that should mean no more parking tickets for you. Please do share this with others so they are not paying the council money which they do not need to do so.
