This is another plant in our Backyard Weeds series - where I focus on common weeds, invasive plants, and native Florida plants that have potential benefits, either as edible or medicinal plants.
This is the Golden Rain Tree or Golden Flame Tree aka Koelreuteria elegans. There is a similar species called Koelreuteria paniculata. One of the main differences between Koelreuteria paniculata and Koelreuteria elegans is their leaves. One is pinnate and the other is bipinnate. This plant has potential as an anti-inflammatory, has beautiful flowers, is a great shade tree, and can be used to make natural plant dye. This plant is not recommended in the Southeast! It is considered an invasive weed. As always, do your research before consuming any plant and always forage and wildcraft responsibly!
