Phew, so NVIDIA launched the new RTX 50 series of graphics cards at CES 2050 - including the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070. The other GPUs in the series (like the RTX 5060 and maybe RTX 5060 Ti) will come later on in the year. However these cards have a higher power requirements - with the RTX 5090 having a TDP of 575w, much higher than the 450w of the RTX 4090. So can you PSU cope with this? Do you need to run out and buy a new PSU? I answer these questions and more, and I also talk in detail about the 'melting' 12vhpwr connector, ATX 2.0 vs 3.0 vs 3.1, and whether you need to change your 12vhpwr cable to a 12vh-2x6 'cable' (spoiler alert: you don't... but you might need a new PSU!). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The individual timestamps for this video are: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 00:00 RTX 50 Series Power Requirements 00:40 My Corsair ATX 2.0 and 3.0 PSUs 01:34 Power Method #1: ATX 3.0 And 12vhpwr 02:01 Method #2: ATX 2.0 W/ PSU Adaptor 02:30 Method #3: ATX 2.0 W/ NVIDIA Adaptor 03:05 Method #4: ATX 2.0 W/ CableMod Adaptor 03:24 Method #5: PSU With 12vhpwr Slot 03:47 The 12vhpwr Connector Is VERY Flawed 04:17 You Can't Buy A 12vh-2x6 Cable 05:47 A Chain Is Only As Strong As... 07:25 When NOT To Use The NVIDIA Adaptor 08:28 Other Methods I Wouldn't Use 09:21 What Type Of PSU I WOULD Buy 10:09 Safely Plugging In The 12vhpwr Cable 10:34 ATX 3.0 vs 3.1 PSU? 11:23 A Warning About GPU TDP ~~~~~~ Credits ~~~~~~ Thanks to the following resources (sounds, images etc): "Pop-up Sound" by BeezleFM (https://freesound.org/s/512135/ -- License: Attribution 4.0) -- Slapshot Metal Hit4.A1.wav by pthj412 (https://freesound.org/s/224010/ -- License: Attribution 3.0) -- Everybody All Together (Instrumental) by Gareth Johnson, License ID: a3DPgojqQqo https://t.lickd.co/AMmMOB2ljR4 --- Nightscreen (Instrumental) by Gareth Johnson, License ID: M8YgvoPyAr0 https://t.lickd.co/p8Bypg25RlQ --- The 12vhpwr official adapator was taken from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16-pin_12VHPWR_connector#/media/File:Nvidia_12VHPWR_adapter.jpg Credit: "Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=125244734" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #PCBuild #NVIDIA #GraphicsCard
