Modern cancer treatments have dramatically improved the outlook of cancer patients and enduring survivorship has become the expectation of many. Newer therapies, especially those targeting the immune system, have been dramatically effective in this in recent years and the range of immunotherapeutic strategies and effective agents has proliferated.
At the same time, because of the nature of several therapeutic approaches to cancer - and possibly also because of shared aetiological factors – cardiovascular problems are increasingly recognised to complicate the treatment and/or long term health of cancer patients.
This is the focus of the new interdisciplinary area of cardio-oncology. Besides mitigating the effects of established chemo- and radiotherapeutic approaches, cardo-oncologists are now increasing involved in detecting and treating the adverse cardiovascular effects of immunotherapies.
This webinar addresses some of the fundamental developments in cancer immunotherapy and their potential cardiovascular risks.
