(Big thanks to Rochelle Marie for asking this!)
Rochelle brought up a really common (and valid) question:
“Is CapCut charging now? I reinstalled the app, and it’s asking me to pay. I made a video and it only gave me the option to Post as Template, not export.”
Short answer:
Yes, CapCut has shifted quite a bit recently.
The free version is now very limited, offering just the bare-bones tools like trimming, splitting, and a few transitions and text options.
Many of the features that were previously free—like background removal, retouch tools, slow motion, or premium fonts—are now Pro only.
You’ll likely see a 7-day or 1-month free trial pop up depending on whether you're a new or returning user.
If you only see “Post as Template,” it means you’re in Template Mode instead of editing a standard project.
I created a quick demo video to walk you through exactly what this looks like and how to avoid that template/export issue.
If video content is a big part of your business, investing in the Pro version might be worth it—CapCut still offers the most for the cost and is super user-friendly compared to other apps.
