Captagon is a highly addictive drug that has ravaged the Middle East in recent years. Now a joint investigation by BBC News Arabic with investigative journalism network, OCCRP, has discovered new direct links between this multi-billion dollar drug trade and leading members of the Syrian Armed Forces and President Bashar al-Assad's family.

The Syrian government and Hezbollah didn’t respond to the BBC findings. However they have previously denied involvement in the Captagon trade and say they are fighting drug trafficking. Two of President Assad’s relatives also denied any role in the Captagon trade.
