EP 54: 20 year old carburetor needs to be refreshed
I can’t remember at the time that I banished this plane to storage if it was having any engine problems. I wanna say probably not because this particular G-38 was one of the best running, most reliable engines that I have ever owned, and it was my first gasolene engine ever. I remember buying it from an old friend that retired in our area that used to own a hobby store in California. He brought a lot of his old inventory and kind of ran a miniature hobby business out of his shop here. This engine was open boxed in his inventory, and he made me a crazy low price deal… Last week with the help of Mark, we ran the engine and it actually fired up after a few tries. But the tank was throwing big clods of varnish through the tubing, and I didn’t have an inline filter on it. So I decided to video taking apart the carb to inspect the inside knowing there is probably some gunk to be removed. What I found was something I had never seen before.
