After the latest first ministers meeting in Saskatoon on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Canada's 13 premiers emerged united on the nation's priorities as Parliament enters its second week and the Liberal government shifts into gear.
Though the leaders agreed to accelerate several “nation-building” projects, they did not share a final list of those projects in the 30-minute press conference.
Carney, however, says the projects under consideration include critical minerals pathways, nuclear power, and decarbonizing Canadian oil and gas production. Additionally, upcoming federal legislation will mandate consultation with First Nations on what projects are picked.
Despite uncertainty facing the public, premiers – for the most part – reassured reporters it was a positive and beneficial meeting. In fact, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said it was their best meeting in a decade.
