Cass Scenic Railroad: Shay #5 in the Snow 2-1/2-2025.
February is upon us, and we make our way back to the mountains of West Virginia to visit the Cass Scenic Railroad. While normally we wouldn't visit Cass until June or later, this time of year is very significant because of the weather. The West Virginia mountains tend to get quite a bit of snow, and the railroad started capitalizing on the opportunity.
During six weekends from mid-January to the end of February, the Cass Scenic Railroad operates the "Winter" Greenbrier Express over the old Chesapeake & Ohio Greenbrier division between Cass and Durbin WV. A distance of about 15 miles or so, and travels along the famous Greenbrier River. Power for the Greenbrier Express for the weekend was Cass Scenic Railroad's Shay #5. The oldest Shay locomotive in operation.
*River road was closed due to some flooding that happened the day before we chased. So, we unfortunately did not get locations such as Nottingham, but hopefully next time we chase we can travel that road to get some shots along the river. Sometimes in this business you have to play with the cards you are dealt.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of Cass Scenic Railroad #5 as she struts her stuff in the snow!
