CEECing Context and Gaps in the Intersection of Water, Tailings & Other Emissions

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Speaker: Janine Herzig Abstract: The urgent need for a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to sustainable water, energy and tailings management in mineral processing. Water is essential for both humanity and resource extraction, yet challenges such as water scarcity, poor quality, conflicts over water rights and discharges, extreme weather events, and groundwater contamination are ever escalating costs and risks in the sector. CEEC's Global Water Initiative (GWI) was officially launched at the MetPlant Conference in November 2023 in Adelaide. It aims to bridge the gap between data collection and practical water management by convening industry, METS, and researchers to create shared understanding and identify actionable solutions. By strengthening water management knowledge and aligning investors, regulators, and communities, we can prevent water-related disasters and make responsible water use the industry norm, driving improved ESG performance and long-term sustainability.
