To celebrate their 100th birthday, the British loudspeaker powerhouse that is Celestion have chosen to reissue one of their most classic and revered AlNiCo speakers.....the Silver. Derived from a radio speaker back in the 60s, and reengineered to be robust enough for use in a guitar combo amplifier, it's 'the' speaker for the classic AC30 and JTM45/Bluesbreaker sound. The AlNiCo Blue has always been said to be a recreation of that original 15W driver, and the Gold is a similar-sounding higher powered 50W version of it. But when Celestion released the 35W Ruby a few years ago to slot nicely in between the two power ratings, it.......well, let's just say it was quite a differently voiced speaker, and it wasn't to everybody's tastes. But now, the OG Silver is back...with a few mod cons and an increased power rating to make it more versatile, the Celestion 100 is said to be a Greatest Hits of all of their in-house examples of those old Silvers. Can it bring that timeless AlNiCo 'Kerrrrrrang' that we know and love? Does it get close to the old Silvers? Let's find out! What do you think? Timeless AlNiCo crunch? Or not for you? Comment below!
