Change was an Italian-American band that formed in 1979 with Jacques Fred Petrus, Mauro Malavasi and Davide Romani in Bologna, Italy. The idea of the band was to have a constantly changing lineup of members, thus the name. Once the musical tracks were recorded, the tapes were shipped to New York for additional production involving the recording of vocalists. "The Glow Of Love" was a superb production in the vein of Chic and the first single "A Lover's Holiday" is direct homage. The piano licks, pliant basslines and the nearly spoken lyrics delivered by unemotional females fuelled the catapult to #1 on the disco/dance chart in 1980 with Luther Vandross providing a soulful counterpoint on background vocals. The album "The Glow Of Love" was the #1 Disco album of the year, with three songs topping the disco/dance chart for a total of nine weeks. Luther began a successful solo career in 1981. By 1983 Change was on the downswing, but Petrus hired the recently fired members of The Time, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to produce 1984's "Change Of Heart", making the band relevant again. It ended up being a one shot as the business deal between the duo and Petrus fell apart and so did Change. A few years later, in 1985 Petrus died and Change was laid to rest. In 1990, an attempt to recapture the Change magic failed as the completed album failed to find a backer until 2009 when "Change Your Mind" was finally released. Janet Jackson famously used a clip from "The Glow Of Love" in her chart topping single "All For You"...that reminded us how dazzling Change could be.
