In today's video, we'll be discussing why you should regularly check the auger gearbox on a snow blower, to ensure it has proper lubrication.
As shown in the video, a snow blower come into the shop that had a damaged worm gear. This worm gear failed because there wasn't any grease inside the gear box, to lubricate the rotating assembly.
These gear boxes can leak if the seals, or the gasket fails. This is quite common on older equipment.
Even if the gear box has a slow leak, you can simply add grease to it every season, to keep everything lubricated, and to prevent an expensive repair bill.
I personally use STENS "00" Grease (Double Zero) as I find it to be the perfect balance between a low temp soft grease, and an oil.
