The Chicago Bears off-season has begun to heat up now that the franchise tag period has begun, along with teams making major cuts ahead of the March 10th beginning to free agency.

With top free agent Trey Smith in their sight after The Kansas City Chiefs are not expected to franchise tag or transition tag Smith, The Bears have some other players that are expressing interest in coming to Chicago to help continue this rebuild for the future.

Nick Chubb, who has been with the Cleveland Browns, is expected to hit free agency after back-to-back seasons of dealing with major leg injuries. In 2023, he suffered a torn MCL, ACL, and meniscus which kept him out most of 2023 and some of 2024. He returned in 2024 where he was in the running for comeback player of the year, but ended up breaking his foot at the end of the season where sealed his fait of coming back to Cleveland. With that, Chubb has expressed if the Browns do not want to bring him back, he would want to come to the Chicago Bears to be reunited for Georgia Bulldogs teammate D'Andre Swift, who signed a 3-year, $24mil contract with the Bears last off-season.

Chubb is a 4x Pro Bowler and 4x 1,000+ yard rusher for the Browns, and could come to Chicago on a veteran minimum. The 29 year old is looking to save his career elsewhere, and could do it for cheap.

Along with that news, The Chicago Bears are looking to bolster their defensive line. After a slower year from Montez Sweat, The Bears could look to find someone to take the heat off him in order to get back up to speed. Though the Bears are linked to the Los Angeles Chargers for Khalil Mack, they could be linked to the other star EDGE in LA, Joey Bosa.

Bosa, 29, is a multiple time pro-bowler who is know for his ability to get to the QB at ease with his 6'5, 280lb frame and good tactics. The 2024 Pro-Bowler if cut by LA would save them $12.36mil from his roster bonus that is due prior to the beginning of free agency. Bosa is coming off a pro-bowl season with the Chargers after they made the playoffs, but excited early with a loss to The Houston Texans.

Bosa was regarded as one of the best EDGEs in football in the late 2010's, but has been injury ridden since 2020. The star EDGE is looking to get back on track, and could do so in Chicago. At the moment, he is projected to get a 1-year, $12mil contract if he does hit free agency, which would be a bargain for a 4x Pro Bowler.

Finally, in regards to Ian Cunningham, The Chicago Bears might be losing their assistant general manager to the Jacksonville Jaguars as he completed his 2nd round interview on 2/19/25, which from reports, Cunningham is favored to get the Jaguars job. This would be big for the Bears as they would lose a key part to their front office, but, it also means the Bears would get a 3rd round pick in the next two drafts from the NFL as compensation picks.
