The weekend of Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September would see the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway host their first ever Steam Gala. Small Prairie no.4555 is on hire for 2024 from the Dartmouth Steam Railway to operate the steam services for the year and two more guest locomotives were announced in the shape of Manor no.7820 'Dinmore Manor' from the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway and Caledonian Railway no.55189 from the SRPS. One train would be in operation, running 7 trips on Friday and 8 trips on Saturday and Sunday between Chinnor and Princes Risborough and return, with loco changes at both ends and some trips double headed or top and tailed. Brake vans rides were also in operation at Princes Risborough in the hands of Class 03 Diesel Shunter.
I made my first ever visit to the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway on Friday 13th September, starting the day lineside first at Horsenden, then fields around Chinnor before moving to the station. I took two round trips in the afternoon, breaking one journey at Princes Risborough and finished the day at Keens Lane Crossing just outside Chinnor. It was a lovely day, thanks as always to everyone involved in the event. 55189 seemed to struggle on the banks, taking around half an hour to complete her two trips towards Chinnor so by the end of the day trains were around an hour late but it did not detract from the show. Fingers crossed the event worked for the railway and will be repeated next year!
