Chris Hayes has thought a lot about attention. As the host of MSNBC’s All In, it’s his job to grab it, and he’s seen who else is competing for it. In a world where our brains are being rewired by the little sirens in our pockets–our smartphones–Hayes argues in his new book The Siren’s Call that attention has become the most valuable commodity there is. Looking at who joined Trump on the dais at his inauguration (tech billionaires whose fortunes have come from capturing our attention), it seems like the new political regime agrees. But if we can understand more about who’s capturing our attention, and how, we can be better equipped to decide where we put our attention, rather than having it… well, captured.
