This July 2017 concert, recorded at Fort St. Agatha during the Jazz à Porquerolles Music Festival, demonstrates the genius of Chris Potter. Rooted both in the tradition of Sonny Rollins and the modernism of Michael Brecker, but at the same time bearing his own avant-garde stamp, the saxophonist—particularly on tenor—continues to blow us away with his tempestuous solos, even after a twenty-year career, during which he has often played with Dave Holland and Paul Motian. While his album The Dreamer Is the Dream (ECM), in which he formed a quartet with David Virelles, Joe Martin and Marcus Gilmore, just came out, Potter turns up in a trio during the summer festivals. And what a trio it is! On drums, Eric Harland—a partner of McCoy Tyner and, notably, Charles Lloyd—has already woven his acrobatic patterns on dozens of major albums, despite the fact that he’s not yet 40 years old. On keyboards, James Francies is only 21. Leader of the group Kinetic and a collaborator of Jeff “Tain” Watts, Chris Dave, Robert Glasper and The Roots, he imbues the Chris Potter compositions with a truly stunning synthetic, retro-futuristic groove. It’s enough to drive the trio, which really tears it up on "Circuits", stretched out over some twenty minutes. On top of all that, this masterful concert is superbly produced (elegant black and white, elaborate designs) and the quality of the sound recording is impeccable! - Eric Delhaye 🎥 Watch our well-curated playlists Full CONCERTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5OmpezrQgeLSfwlD__APwFech Analogue Sessions https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5Omo5LIL52OsO5S8PaL98jgrp The GREATEST HITS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5OmqKsgOZ5Wvr_nE9puWglGhf Legendary ARCHIVE GEMS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5OmoPQHkpmCsnItDdxPkqVO_f Captivating DOCUMENTARIES https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5Omobz7szKdlkXU-TRrBE2_Px Follow Qwest TV Website: https://www.qwest.tv/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/qwest.tv Facebook: https://facebook.com/qwesttv Twitter: https://twitter.com/Qwest_TV Qwest TV is Quincy Jones' video streaming network celebrating Black Music & Global Sounds through premium documentaries, live concerts, archive gems and interviews showcasing the greatest musicians of all time!
