In this video, we take a look at a masterpiece of the kabuki and bunraku repertoire, Ichi-no-Tani Futaba Gunki ("Chronicle of the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani"), first staged for the puppet theatre in the 12th lunar month of 1751, at the Toyotake-za theatre in Osaka.

This first video covers the scenes still performed of act II, Jinmon ("The Camp Gate") and Kumiuchi ("The Duel"), and an upcoming video will focus on act III, centered around the scene Kumagai Jin'ya ("Kumagai's Camp").

A complete English translation of all these scene can be found in James R. Brandon's "Kabuki: Five Classic Plays".
