Video Not Working? Fix It Now

This neat little folding clamshell box (also called a drop spine box) makes a great container for a special book or set of books. It’s also perfect as a portfolio box, holding separate images. The fact that one side is completely open once you open it up makes it very easy to get items in and out.

Here's the link where you can download my handy-dandy worksheets so the measurements for your clamshell box come out perfectly every time. The worksheets are available in both imperial measurements (inches) and metric measurements (millimeters). http://www.handmadebooksandjournals.com/create-custom-books/boxes-and-slipcases/clamshell-box/clamshell-box-worksheets/

Here is a great source for the bookboard, or binder's board, mentioned in the video. You can get it in several different thicknesses.

If you're tired of cutting bookboard by hand (particularly the thicker bookboard used for making boxes and slipcases) this inexpensive guillotine works wonderfully and is a real time and hand-saver.

It’s the one piece of equipment that I would rescue if my studio were to catch on fire. :)

Also a great source for PVA adhesive:

If you are making your own bookcloth, here's a source for the rice paper you'll need:

You can also buy wheat starch to make your bookcloth paste. This has the gluten removed which makes it a bit more resistant to insects. (Not that I've ever had an issue with insects eating my books :)
