The 2023 Mazda CX-30 is one of the most eye-catching small SUVs money can buy. But is it another classic case of style over substance? Given the rivalling Volkswagen T-Roc was just facelifted, and the redesigned Hyundai Kona is around the corner, it better hope not.
You see, the CX-30 does a remarkably good job of standing out in a crowd, and when someone's able to get in the cabin of one, they're even more impressed by just how premium the crossover is. Yep, it arguably has the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA in its crosshairs.
But as CarsGuide Journalist Tom White finds out in this expert review, class-leading design inside and out don't necessarily make for a class-leading drive experience, with the high-spec G25 Astina variant on test here powered by an outdated engine - it's not hybridised, but it's also not turbocharged. Times have changed, Mazda.
