It's been a long time coming, but it's here as promised. Making this dessert with my own daughters transported me back to the days when my mammie and aunties would bring us into the kitchen to make "mischief." "Making mischief" is an endearing term which refers to those long time days when we would all gather in the kitchen to indulge in dessert making of ALL kinds. From traditional Trini sweets such as suger cakes, tambran and paw paw balls, kurma and cakes, to more challenging and rarely had desserts such as doughnuts, punches and, yes, CUSTARD! These occasions were moments that would be saturated with childhood innocence, excitement and curiosity. All of which cooked up some of the best baked childhood memories of warmth, love, togertheness and a sense of belonging. Memories which remained long after the last hint of sweetness vanished from our palates. Sweetness of the soul. It's a blessing to gift my girls with mischief making memories. Say that five times fast. Enjoy.
