This is lesson no. 2 for learning clawhammer (or frailing) banjo. These lessons take it super slow, so in this video, I just cover the basic 'dum ditty' rhythm. I go through proper left hand position, go back over some of the basics from lesson one, and look at the first couple basic chords (C and E minor).
The aim here is just to get used to the dum ditty rhythm, which is central to the clawhammer or frailing style - it's pretty much played all the way through Cripple Creek, for example! Getting used to using your left/fretting hand is also super important, so take your time with these exercises before moving on.
Slow can be boring, but it is effective!
