This is a followup to my first Cleaning Series video where I showed how to gently but effectively clean the painted finishes of your sewing machine. For this installment, I test several cleaning options against each other and lay out a case for which is the most effective. The parts getting cleaned in this episode are the hardware pieces of a machine that often are neglected over time. Cover plates, Clutch knobs, handwheels (certain models) and other trim pieces require an approach to restoring quite different from those parts of a machine that are painted. Old oil, light oxidation, and worn plating can really result in your machine looking shall we say "forlorn". Stay tuned for Episode 3 where we will tackle the hand wheel of this machine which has considerably more rust to remove!! As with all overhaul/restoration procedures, patience is your friend. Don't be in a hurry or overly aggressive and you can bring warm lustre back to your long dormant and long forgotten (until now) vintage sewing machine!
