Climbing Weavers Needle - Superstition Wilderness, Arizona
If you've watched my video "Is hiking dangerous?", you know that I attempted to climb Weavers Needle in the Superstition Wilderness. And I failed spectacularly.
My first time trying to get to the summit of Weavers Needle, I had just finished a canyoneering course. Our instructor made it sound like it was easy. So I thought I would check it out. When I got back home from the canyoneering course, I read a beta for Weavers Needle. Sounded like no problem. Little did I know that the author of the beta was a local rock climbing/canyoneering legend. Of course it was easy for them.
It was not easy for me. I got up to the second pitch and ended up bailing, tail between my legs.
Time went on and I got more and more experience in the outdoors. And I continued hiking in the Superstitions, with Weavers Needle in the background, taunting me. I do not like to fail.
So I made a plan to go back and attempt it again. But this time, I had more experience on my side. And some friends who knew how to rock climb.
So here it is. A story of poor decisions. And better decisions. The story of my search for redemption.
