CM1 Test of the Warlords was written by Douglas Niles and published in 1984. It was the perfect primer for the recently released Dungeons and Dragons Companion Rules, and is the perfect module for detailing why BECMI was such an expansive game. Power, dominion, war, and victory. Test of the Warlords offered all of this and more, as it supported high level adventure in a frozen fantasy wilderness. As Conan the Barbarian said in response to being asked what is best in life: “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!” That's Companion level play in a nutshell.
