Cockpit Setup - Get The Basics Right - Brake Lever & Handlebar Position
Having your contact points set right is essential. Get it wrong, and if you’re lucky, it’s uncomfortable, or if you’re unlucky, you get injured.
Obviously, the number one is saddle height. After that, it’s the much more complicated cockpit.
If your levers are in the wrong position, then you’re in the wrong position. Leading to increased pressure on your hands, arms and shoulders. Also, if your levers aren’t level, then you’re not level. Your back will be twisted, and you’ll be sat to one side in the saddle. Now, if you’re doing a 1 mile plod to the shops once a week, then this probably doesn’t matter, but if you’re riding hundreds of miles, then it does.
So in this video, I’ll give you some simple advice on getting the cockpit basics right.
This video isn’t a bike fit video, this is a bike setup video. I’ll show you how to get things where they should be by default. What it should be like on a new bike. There is no ‘One Size Fits All’. Bike fitting is a specialist subject, that I know nothing about. If you’ve got the basics right, but it’s still not right for you, then you should speak to a specialist.
