An 'over the shoulder' view of me creating a painting through the use of collage and decollage. Apologies for my body getting in the way during parts of the video.
The first part shows the first decollage process used when building up the layers of collage papers.
The second part shows me adding a layer of tissue paper part-way through the collage and decollage process.
The third part shows the more detailed decollage process of cutting shapes into the layers and revealing the papers hidden below.
Materials used.
Substrate: Canvas covered board / panel (unsure of brand, Arteza are good and affordable; Daler Rowney are good quality and less likely to warp)
Collage papers: home made collage papers with acrylic paint on paper, book pages and wet strength tissue
Glue: In the video I use Liquitex Matte Medium which is quite fluid. I also used (not shown) a UHU glue stick, Liquitex gloss medium and Winsor and Newton glaze medium. I am not sure that the glue really matters, use what you have!
Catalyst tool: In the collage part I use a Princeton Catalyst Silicone Mini Blade Tool-White M-04, Synthetic to apply the medium
Spray bottle: just one from amazon
Craft knife: probably from Hobbycraft Uk.
Stencil: geometric stencil from amazon
Pencil: just a regular HB
Paint: acrylic paint, various brands
Frame: St. Ives frame from www.instagram.com/frames4artists - highly recommend
