In this video, I’ll show you how I create a textured text background for my artwork using torn magazine papers. I’ll walk you through how I prep the substrate, tear the papers, and glue everything down to set the perfect base for a new piece of collage/mixed media art.
I’ll also share a trick for creating contrast and adding a visual anchor that makes the final piece pop. Plus, I’ll explain how I my computer scanner to turn these collaged text backgrounds into reusable images for smaller studies. Let’s dive in!

ABOUT ME
As an "experimenter" in art, I use a variety of tools, techniques and materials to make layered, aged- and weathered-looking art that tells a story. I love the idea of using things beyond their original intent - taking overlooked materials and breathing new life into them through layered, weathered compositions. Each piece becomes a visual story, where a forgotten scrap of fabric or a used tea bag finds new meaning.
