Indigenous microorganisms (IMO’s) can be collected from the local environment and used to inoculate compost & soil, or used as a liquid foliar spray. It's a simple, inexpensive way to make microbial inoculants that are adapted to our local environment! Materials: Box (with holes) Cheesecloth Cooked rice Sugar Step 1: Fill box with cooked rice. Cover with cheesecloth. Step 2: Bury the box in a shallow hole. Leave for 1 week. Step 3: Mix inoculated rice with sugar at a 1:1 ratio. Step 4: Cover with cheesecloth and leave in a cool dark place for 1 week. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 0:45 - Materials 0:58 - Step 1 2:35 - Step 2 3:48 - IMO 1 / Result 4:47 - Step 3 6:57 - Step 4 7:09 - IMO 2 / Result 8:41 - What to do next ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ *USING LIQUID IMO* Strain the sugar-rice mixture with a cheesecloth to get liquid IMO. We use these ratios: ...for foliar spray: 1:250 (IMO/Water) ...for soil drench: 1:500 (IMO/Water) ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ More in depth info on making IMOs: https://www.echocommunity.org/en/resources/7b581f74-898f-49fd-b8bc-2a514896f38e Check out our website for more info on growing, edibles, kitchen and farm musings! https://www.windhillgrowers.com/ Be sure to follow us on Instagram for more updates: https://www.instagram.com/windhillgrowers/ OR follow our adventures on… Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@windhillgrowers?
