0:00 D&C 93 – This section contains deep and profound doctrine about who God is, who we are, and who the opposition is. If we understand the doctrine deeply, it will have a profound effect on our attitudes and behavior. This section has also been referred to as God’s theology on parenting.
6:21 The promise of seeing God’s face and knowing that He is will come to every soul who: (1) “forsaketh his sins”, (2) “cometh unto me”, (3) “calleth on my name”, and (4) “obeyeth my voice” , and (5) “keepeth my commandments”.
10:18 Verse 2: A discussion on light, truth, intelligence, agency, and identity. These doctrines will fill our hearts with light and truth and empower us to walk the covenant path. Cross reference to John 1 in the New Testament.
15:09 John 1:1-5 What does the “word” mean? Explanation of the Greek origin of “word” or “logos”. How do we use words? How does God communicate with you?
23:04 Verses 1-3: “I am the true light that lighteth every man that cometh unto the world.” The doctrine of unity in the Godhead. We can also become one with God. Cross reference with John 14:20 and John 17:20-21.
29:14 Verses 4-11: How Jesus is both the Father and Son. Jesus Christ is the “word” and the messenger of salvation. Jesus Christ is the light... “in Him was the life of men and the light of men.”
35:45 Verses 12-17: The progressive states of being of Jesus Christ. In the beginning, He was a God and inherited godly attributes from His father. He came to earth as a man and inherited humanity from Mary. He did not receive a fullness at the first but received grace for grace. At the age of 30, He was baptized and received a fullness of the glory of the Father.
41:04 Verse 19: A thesis statement of the Doctrine and Covenants. “I give unto you these sayings that you may understand and know how to worship, and know what you worship, that you may come unto the Father in my name, and in due time receive of his fullness.”
42:32 Verse 20: “Ye shall receive of his fullness, and be glorified in me,”...What does it mean to receive “grace for grace” and to continue from “grace to grace”?
46:28 Verse 23-24: “Ye were also in the beginning with the Father.” Freedom, liberty, and agency increase as we learn the truth.
49:43 Verse 25: Satan was a liar from the beginning. There is no salvation in being forced, being ignorant, or not having choice.
51:08 Verse 26-28: “The spirit of truth is of God...no man receiveth a fullness unless he keepeth his commandments.” The commandments of God are an extension of His grace. What is our part? To listen and obey the commandments of God. There is HOPE in Christ.
54:49 Verses 29-32: “Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.” God does not force us. There is no existence without the ability to act and to have agency.
58:54 Verses 35-36: “Man is the tabernacle of God, even temples.” “The glory of God is intelligence, or in other words, light and truth.” Our capacity for light and truth grows as we progress.
1:02:08 Verses 37-40 “Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning.”...The wicked one takes light and truth away through disobedience. Satan tries to get us to disobey at every level. Darkness is the absence of light. He can only tempt you to disobey so that the light will decrease.
1:07:26 Verse 41 God, the Father, who knows how to raise a family, teaches early leaders of the church how to be a better father and a better parent. What doctrines, if understood, will motivate children to act and move forward with greater faith?
1:11:14 Verse 51 Conclusion: The more we seek truth and knowledge, the more power we will have to act. Plead with God to use that agency to be more obedient and to extend grace outward...then “It SHALL come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am.” (see verse 1).
