This video lets you compare the field theme “Wagon’s March” from the latter half of Chapter 5 of "Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen" as it appears in the Famicom, PlayStation, and Nintendo DS versions. In addition, a remix combining all three versions is included. For the best experience, we recommend listening with headphones.
“Wagon’s March” begins playing on the field once all allies have gathered in Chapter 5. Unlike the previous field theme “Homeland of the Hero,” this march expresses the courage of going on an adventure with dependable companions, resulting in a very spirited piece of music.
The PS1 and DS versions are faithful orchestral arrangements, each consisting of two loops. Each loop is nearly a minute long, making it longer than most other field themes.
Since all three versions use almost the same tempo and key, there is only one type of remix. When remixed, the PS1 and DS versions complement each other, creating a rich sound, while the Famicom version adds a unique brass or woodwind-like tone that blends in interestingly.
For the illustrations in the video, we’re using art from the packaging and manuals of the Famicom, PS1, and DS versions. The DS artwork was likely created during the PS1 era.
