In the video you can see a quick comparison of the two options in 35th scale for the BMPT. These are Zvezda and Meng. The price that I got the Zvezda was around 1/3 of the price of the Meng, but that depends on the market. You can also see the three types of camo masks that DN Models have on that subject after the review of the sprues.
Meng Model Terminator is pretty much state of the art model, featuring great detail, active suspension, movable and workable tracks and all the goodies that you can think of. Building that scale model requires some experience though, and for a first kit it's not the best choice. On the other hand Zvezda BMPT is pretty simplified compared to Meng. It is not a simple kit by itself though. The tracks are made in few separate track links, and the main lengths of them are one piece moldings. That makes every modeler's life easier and allows you to spare time on the build and save it for the painting and weathering.
The detail of Zvezda is not bad at all, and I have to say that it supersedes Meng Model's kit at some points. However, in general it lacks texture on its flat surfaces and that is a low point. It is nothing major and it can be fixed easily. Zvezda also features the movable turret and positionable guns, which can make their Terminator very attractive once build. In general both kit are comparable and the choice will depend on two things mostly:
1. Do you have Zvezda and Meng Model available in your local store.
2. Do you wanna save money, giving up some of the details for it.
Trumpeter are about to release their BMPT in the first couple months of 2016, and it promises to be a very good model incorporating Meng and Zvezda qualities into one kit. If you rush it, you can choose between the two scale models shown in the video. If not, I suggest to wait fo Trumpeter BMPT. There will be some different approaches to the engineering of it, and I will most likely do another comparison review to make them public.
DN Models offers a set of masks for three options of that vehicle. Please check the links above for them. They are useful and can be applied on both kits: Meng and Zvezda.
The BMPT "Terminator" is a post-Cold war armored fighting vehicle (AFV) designed and manufactured by the Russian company, Uralvagonzavod. This vehicle was designed for supporting tanks and other AFVs in urban areas. The BMPT is unofficially named the "Terminator" by the manufacturers. It is heavily armed and armored to survive in urban combat. This AFV is armed with four 9M120 Ataka missile launchers, two 30 mm 2A42 autocannons, two AG-17D grenade launchers, and one coaxial 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun.
The BMPT is built on the chassis of the T-72 main battle tank which is used in large numbers by the Russian Army and has been manufactured under license by many other countries. The BMPT was designed based on combat experience gained during the Soviet war in Afghanistan and the First Chechen War. Multiple prototypes of a tank support combat vehicle were created prior to the design of the current BMPT. The Object 199 "Ramka" was the prototype later to be known as the modern BMPT with the official producer being Uralvagonzavod. A small number were delivered to the Russian Ground Forces for evaluation beginning in 2005. As of late 2013, the only operator of the BMPT was Kazakhstan. Russia appears to have foregone procurement of the BMPT in favor if the T-15 IFV based on the Armata Universal Combat Platform to fill the role.
