As difficult as this sounds, slide rules make short work of these problems. Whether you are calculating bacterial growth rates or comparing interest on car loans, a little knowledge and a slide rule saves you time and brain power.

Side Note: If you are in the market for a slide rule that will handle everything we do here (with few exceptions) I would recommend the Pickett N-3 (what we use as a virtual slide rule) or an Aristo Studio 0968. Both are about $30 on eBay and easy to find. The Picketts come in an ES version (yellow) or a T version (Tan). I prefer the latter, but that is a personal choice.
