An email sent to US federal employees is causing chaos as billionaire Elon Musk reiterates a threat to fire workers.
Many employees claim they’re confused, adding they don’t know what to do with the email, which demands they explain their accomplishments at work over the past week or risk losing their jobs.
The deadline has passed, but Mr Musk has doubled down, claiming employees will be given another chance, but failure to respond a second time will “result in termination”.
Mr Musk’s comments came hours after seemingly contradictory guidance from the Office of Personnel Management, which is the agency that sent the email.
It says responding was voluntary but strongly encouraged – meanwhile, a number of federal agencies claim they don’t want their employees to answer.
