Repoussé is a metalworking technique which dates from Antiquity. We work on the reverse of the metal to form a raised design on the front. The metal is placed in a pan with melted pitch and after its cold it's ready to work with. The process takes a lot of time due to the repetition of a number of time-consuming stages. The last stage is reversing the metal and refining the design on the front of the work by sinking the metal, which is called chasing.
