Episode 487 Jerry (Graham Haberfield) wakes up after sleeping rough at the yard only to be confronted by Len (Peter Adamson) who warns him he could call the police but instead offers him a contact for potential work. Jack (Arthur Leslie) tricks Annie (Doris Speed) into thinking he forgot her birthday and later surprises her with a necklace. Annie is thrilled with birthday cards from Lucille (Jennifer Moss), Billy (Kenneth Farrington), Joan (June Barry) and Arthur Forsyth-Jones (Ian Colin). A friend of Albert's (Jack Howarth) tells him that he overheard Len threatening Jerry with the police. Jerry finds no success with Len's contact and Albert storms down to the yard to confront Len about the way is treating Jerry. Stan (Bernard Youens) supports Albert when Len becomes aggressive. Exploding bottles at No.5 frighten Bobby the Cat into hiding. Jack feels jealous over Annie's admiration for Mr. Forsyth-Jones's poetic card. Charlie (Gordon Rollings) and Stan clean up the bottle mess while Lionel (Edward Evans) advises leaving it to professionals. While washing at No.11 Jerry accepts Elsie's (Pat Phoenix) offer to share a room with Dennis (Philip Lowrie). Before Jerry can leave Len offers him his job back and a room at his place. Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) wants to know when Ena (Violet Carson) is returning from America but Minnie (Margot Bryant) is unsure. Minnie and Emily decide to test the 'tonic water' and end up drunk before falling asleep. Charlie and Stan enjoy their homemade beer while Annie formally becomes the chairperson of the Weatherfield Ladies Licensed Victuallers.
