Coming up on our latest Trade To Black at 4 p.m. EST, host Shadd Dales and Anthony Varrell will once again be joined by Shane Pennington, Partner at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP, to talk about the ongoing ALJ Hearing related to the rescheduling of cannabis in the United States of America.
We'll ask if there have been any updates, and if the Trump administration could go for a direct ruling on the rescheduling of cannabis, and if so, what would need to happen in that scenario.
Plus, Michael Bronstein, President of the American Trade Association for Cannabis & Hemp will join us again for our new weekly segment, Insider Edge, to talk about the latest news from Pennsylvania involving adult use cannabis within the state.
News came out last week involving a Republican senator who supports marijuana legalization and said the governor’s latest cannabis proposal “undermines” the goals of the reform and has “no real path forward.”
While Sen. Dan Laughlin (R) has long advocated for legalization, sponsoring bipartisan bills to end prohibition, he said on Wednesday that Gov. Josh Shapiro’s (D) budget proposal to enact the policy change is fundamentally flawed.
Plus, Anthony & Shadd will discuss how a Republican lawmaker is hopeful that Congress will be able to get a marijuana banking bill across “the finish line” this session.
At a hearing before the House Financial Services Committee on Thursday, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) raised the cannabis banking issue as members discussed broader concerns about claims of discriminatory debanking practices within financial institutions.
“Sadly, we’re seeing that happen in other sectors,” the congressman said. “In nearly every state in the country, some form of marijuana is legal, but you see kind of a second tier of back door making it illegal by saying, ‘Oh, you’re not going to bank those people, are you?’”
And finally, Anthony and Shadd will break down the biggest headlines in the cannabis industry for the day, including news about Tilray (NASDAQ: TLRY)'s plans for the international market.
