Covering a Slipcase with Beautiful Decorative Paper Sides // Adventures in Bookbinding

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

In this video I cover a slipcase by wrapping the side walls in a robust buckram and covering the sides with a decorative paper. I’m sorry the background traffic noise is worse than usual. We live very close to the village of Brookfield on the edge of Brisbane. It’s Brookfield show weekend and they block the traffic through the village for the event. All the detoured traffic goes past our place. For American’s, a show in Australia is like a fair. Country comes to town, carnies running questionably maintained rides and food that never tastes as good as you remember from when you were a kid. I used 300gsm (equivalent to 10pt) buff coloured Bristol Board https://www.schmedt.com/folder-board-smooth-made-of-pressboard-size-91.4-x-60.6-cm-short-grain/11691001 https://www.talasonline.com/Heritage-Archival-Bristol-Board?quantity=5&thickness=14 The boards were acid free generic binders board 2.4mm thick. https://www.schmedt.com/material/cardboard/bookbinders-grey-board/ https://www.talasonline.com/Davey-Red-Label-Binders-Bd-Sample-Book Any PVA/EVA designed for use with paper is fine as an adhesive. The specific glue I'm using is Evasol. I highly recommend Jade 403 and Planatol BB. It is a good idea to let boxes dry and out-gas for about a week before storing things in them. https://www.schmedt.com/planatol-bb-dispersion-glue-for-a-wide-range-of-bookbinding-works/3708-000 https://www.talasonline.com/Jade-403 The #DASBookbinding Channel is the perfect starting point for learning #bookbinding.
