There's not need to overthink textured backgrounds - they are just a tiny part of the creation process. They should be FUN TO CREATE and can give you options in a sketchbook.
Rundown of my top tips
1) Water down paints/ inks
2) Use lighter values
3) Practice stroke movement on printer paper
4) Set a timer for 10 mins - fast & swift
5) Cover 1/4 to 1/3 of your page
6) Limit your self to two colours per page
At this stage please don't obsess over details or worry about meeting expectations.There are no wrong strokes - just paths to learning. Remember growth comes through practice, not perfection. Messing things up now and again are part of the process, and each brushstroke—whether it's exactly as you planned or not—helps you grow.
Be kind to yourself, take a breath, and enjoy the freedom that this technique allows.
