In April-May 1944, the troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front and the Separate Coastal Army conducted the Crimean offensive, which resulted in the liquidation of the German-Romanian group on the peninsula. Part of the units of the 17th Army of General Erwin Jaeneke (from May 1 – Karl Almendinger) were evacuated by ships and airplanes to Romania and Bulgaria, part were killed or captured. Why the German command failed to hold Crimea or at least the Sevastopol area, how Ukrainians manifested themselves in those battles, and against whom the USSR special services began terror immediately after returning to the peninsula – we discuss in the video.
