Democrats have been mocked online over singing in protest after the US House voted to censure Representative Al Green. About two dozen Democrats surrounded Green in the chamber, singing the civil rights anthem We Shall Overcome. The protest forced House Speaker Mike Johnson to gavel the chamber into recess, delaying the formal censure motion. Green, a Texas Democrat, was censured for shouting at Donald Trump during the former president’s speech. He waived his black cane, chanted, and refused to sit down as Trump spoke. The censure resolution passed 224 to 198, with 10 Democrats supporting it. Two Democrats voted present, four did not vote, and Republicans hold a 218-214 majority with three vacancies. On Wednesday, Green said he “would do it again” but accepted that the rules were applied to his actions. “I regret that I had to do what I did, but it was a matter of conscience. It really was," he told Reuters. “The rules were applied to me. I acknowledge it. I accept it. But I would do it again."
