I arrived in Ikom Cross River State Nigeria on a Saturday, but I couldn’t cross into Cameroon until Tuesday. The border is closed on weekends, and with the ongoing Anglophone crisis, it’s also shut on Mondays. So there I was, stuck for two days, waiting. Even after I crossed, I had to hold off moving forward until Wednesday to join the military convoy, which only travels on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The wait came with a wave of anxiety, especially with all the stories I’d been hearing about the crossing into Cameroon.
