Kate takes one of her five-pound agates to the slab saw, searching for the elusive iris pattern sometimes found in Montana agates. While the heavily banded agate did not offer up a rainbow, it did make many beautiful slabs. Kate decides to try to make a large cabochon out of one of the pieces, and learns the hard way that patience is a necessary component of the lapidary process.
