While waiting on some parts to make another video on the F250, I decided to make a smaller video addressing some overdue maintenance on the 1986 528e my girlfriend daily drives. The car has been fouling spark plugs and puffing blue smoke out the exhaust on initial startup, a sign of bad valve stem seals. On some vehicles you can replace the seals with the head still on the engine, in the car, but on these M20s it's best to remove it. I pulled the head, cleaned it, replaced the seals, lapped the valves, adjusted them, and reinstalled.
