Dance : Paika
Tribe : Munda
State : Jharkhand
Paika Dance is usually performed to welcome special respected guests or during religious processions (Shobh Yatra). This dance symbolizes battle art. The dancer holds a shield (Dhal) in his left hand and two edged swords in his right hand. The dresses are bright, attractive and fitted with frills (Jhalar) and a peacock wing (Pankh) is thrust in the turban. To avoid the falling of the turban, colorful cloth strips are tied on hands, elbows and chest in an artistic manner. The colored strips create an impression of colorful wings.
